Buy the fuel your home already supports unless you are paying for a real conversion. For most Charlotte replacements, a like-for-like tank is faster, cheaper and easier to warranty than a tankless dream that needs a new gas line or a 60-amp circuit.

Types
- Electric tank: simplest swap when 240V already exists; hero package $1,199 + tax for qualifying 40-gal.
- Gas tank: faster recovery; needs vent, combustion air and a sound gas line; from $1,449 + tax installed.
- Tankless: endless hot water only if GPM and infrastructure match; higher installed cost and yearly descaling in hard water.
- Heat pump (hybrid): high efficiency, needs space, condensate drain and a location that can tolerate cooler air and noise.
Total cost of ownership
Sticker efficiency means little if the install is wrong. Include expansion tank, pan, permits, and energy price. A $1,199 electric package that fits beats a $4,000 tankless that error-codes in winter.
Brands and warranties
SAFE installs qualifying units with a 5-year limited manufacturer warranty as written for that model, plus 2-year labor on our installation. Register the serial number. Mixing random big-box tanks with unknown prior wiring is how warranties get denied.
